Gulf Coast Community Foundation (Gulf Coast) ranks among the top-performing funders for community impact in an independent benchmarking survey spanning nearly 400 funders, outranking every other community foundation on that measure.

The findings show strong grantee confidence in the foundation’s regional leadership and partnerships, with one grantee noting, Gulf Coast plays a meaningful role as a connector and catalyst within the community. Their leadership helps elevate important conversations, align organizations around shared priorities, and strengthen the overall capacity of the field.” The results also highlight opportunities for more frequent touchpoints with grantees, such as regular check-ins, site visits, and proactive outreach.

Administered by the Center for Effective Philanthropy — an organization that benchmarks feedback from more than 65,000 grantees and more than 400 funders nationwide — the survey provides data-driven insight into grantee experiences and the foundation’s regional impact.

Top findings from the survey include:

  • Gulf Coast ranked in the 98th percentile for impact on the local community, placing it in the top 2% of all funders in the CEP’s benchmarking dataset
  • Among community foundations in CEP’s comparative benchmarking, Gulf Coast ranked highest on community impact
  • 88% of grantees strongly agree Gulf Coast provides critical funding in the region
  • Over 90% of grantees rate Gulf Coast’s Invest in Incredible (I3) programs as helpful in strengthening their organization’s capacity

We do our best work when we’re listening closely to our community and staying focused on emerging needs.”

Phillip Lanham, President | CEO at Gulf Coast Community Foundation

“That perspective shapes how we support nonprofits and connect our donors to their work, while also continuing to learn from trends across community foundations nationally.”

The survey was conducted in January and February 2026 and included organizations that received competitive, application-based grants from Gulf Coast between November 2024 and November 2025.

In addition to quantitative findings, the survey included open-ended responses offering deeper insight into grantee perspectives and experiences, reinforcing the strength of Gulf Coast’s area relationships. As reflected in grantee feedback, Gulf Coast is widely seen as “a tremendous driver of impact within our community, taking leadership on a number of critical issues that are of great importance to the future of the region.”

This marks Gulf Coast’s first Grantee Perception Survey since 2005, following a recent Donor Perception Survey last year. Together, these efforts reflect the foundation’s commitment to listening, learning, and continuous improvement.
