Venice Area Mobile Meals (aka Meals on Wheels)
Venice Area Mobile Meals provides homebound individuals with a warm, nutritious noon-time meal six days a week, 52 weeks a year, including holidays. Clients include widows and widowers who cannot prepare a meal for themselves, the recently hospitalized who have returned home in a weakened condition, and the elderly who are consistently in need of at least one nutritious meal a day. Sometimes, the only outside contact these individuals have during the day is when their meal is delivered. In October 2002, Venice Area Mobile Meals reached a milestone when it delivered its one-millionth meal. By the end of 2008, the number of meals delivered had surpassed 1,265,000, and it continues to grow. This would not be possible without the hundreds of volunteers who deliver meals. Based out of Village on the Isle, Venice Area Mobile Meals has delivered meals to residents from Blackburn Point Road south to Manasota Beach Road, and from I-75 west to the Gulf of Mexico. In 2009, the organization celebrated its 40th anniversary serving the Venice area. Meal cost is minimal, at just $2.75 for an entrée, vegetables, salad, and dessert. Meals on Wheels service is available as long as it is needed, and there are no age restrictions. Your generous gift in any amount will help Venice Area Mobile Meals serve another one million meals!
