Foundation Makes Grants from Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund

VENICE, FL (January 25, 2010) – Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice has directed the first two rounds of donations made to its Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund to Venice-based Agape Flights and the American National Red Cross. The Foundation continues to accept donations to the fund and plans to quickly distribute additional contributions to these two organizations.

Agape Flights, which is headquartered at the Venice Municipal Airport, provides relief services to hundreds of missionary families in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas, including 130 families in Port au Prince, Haiti. According to its Web site, Agape has made more than 50 relief flights since the devastating January 12 earthquake in Haiti, transporting emergency medical supplies, food, medical personnel, and more.

The American Red Cross is delivering humanitarian assistance and personnel to the earthquake-stricken country as part of the international relief and recovery effort. Red Cross responders have set up field hospitals, delivered medical supplies and clean water, and provided many other relief items.

The Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund was established to give Foundation fundholders and supporters an easy way to contribute online to earthquake relief efforts.  Donations still can be made through the fund at gulfcoastcf.org. The Foundation is also encouraging direct donations to relief agencies and facilitating direct grant recommendations made by donors through their donor advised funds.
